How to Start a Guerrilla Garden
If you want to know how to start a guerrilla garden, there’s a good chance you know what a guerrilla garden is. But for those of you who don’t know let me explain it. A guerrilla garden is simply a garden that isn’t supposed to exist. This means, that you plant your garden on somebody else’s property or piece of land or on public land. Just because you don’t have permission to plant a garden, but that doesn’t mean you can’t (just try not to get caught)! A lot of gardening activists are planting guerrilla gardens all over large cities. If you do plant a guerrilla garden make sure to take before and after pictures say that you can see what a difference you are making.
If you live in a big city, you can be very resourceful to find lot of good places to plant your garden. You can even sneak out and take care of your garden at night, when no one is watching you. It can be fun and exciting to have your own guerrilla garden. A perfect example of where to plant a guerrilla garden is in a vacant lot closer your home, or in a median that divides a street. You could also plant next to a wall covered in graffiti. Starting a guerrilla garden is a great way to start improving the landscape around your home.
What You Will Need:
First of all, you will need to decide what you are going to plant. It would probably best to plant something that doesn’t need a lot of water. Plants that need a lot of water are much harder to maintain.
Planting things like tulips and daffodils are always nice. People will be grateful that you took the time to plant when they see your beautiful flowers. If you’re going to be planting bulbs, make sure that you get them planted by 15 October so that they can come in the spring. Another nice thing about bulbs is that they tend to come back every year. Also, you may want to plant things that grow quickly like peas or radishes. That way they can pretty much grow while it is raining in the springtime, and then all you have to do is go out and harvest them.
It also is a good idea to try to pick vegetation that grows in your area naturally. If they can grow naturally, it is good to be a lot easier to maintain. The last thing that you want to do when picking a plant is you want to pick something that is perennial, mean that it will come back every year. There are lots of grasses and flowers that come back every year. That makes the effects of your guerrilla gardening last even longer.
The next thing you’ll need to decide is where to plant your guerrilla garden. Be creative and have fun. That’s the most exciting part of planting a guerrilla garden. As you look around your neighborhood, you will see a lot of opportunities. Think of yourself as an artist, trying to improve the way that the world looks.
